SOUTHPORT, Conn. – The Hibbs Family found their perfect slice of Americana at 255 Half Mile Road in Southport. For the past 21 years, David and Libby Hibbs and their four children enjoyed the 6-bedroom, 3-bath Colonial and the unusually-level and spacious two acres of property.

“One of the fun things we did was build a hockey rink every winter in the backyard, directly off the patio,’’ said Hibbs, whose home is being offered by Berkshire Hathaway for $1,699,000. “The back yard has been a big attraction for sports activities. We played soccer, hockey, baseball, everything. Now it’s time for somebody to do the same.”

The home sits nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac with easy access to Southport town center, Fairfield and Westport. The house, which was built in 1974, includes 4,551 square feet, two half-bathrooms, four fireplaces and a screened porch.

The property also includes a 22 x 36 square foot Country Carpenter post and beam barn with an upper level. The Hibbs found the building perfect for storing outdoor furniture, landscaping tools, recreation equipment and ample workspace for projects. David said the barn is filled with numerous tools he and his son used for projects.

Beautiful hardwood floors run throughout the home. The home’s first floor level includes a sunroom, living room, dining room, family room, great room and a mudroom. A neatly-designed and large patio is steps from the kitchen. All of the bedrooms are upstairs, including a large master suite and 300-square foot office.

“When we bought the house, first floor was wide open,’’ Hibbs said. “We created more rooms and now think it makes it feel more homey. We kind of gave it a flow and defined the area. We like having a family room and Great Room off the kitchen. Those are the areas where we spend most of our time.”

The home also offers the ability to easily open up the kitchen and family room if the new owner desires. The house includes 5,208 square feet of living space.

The Hibbs all found the home comfortable during their entire two-decade stay. “It was the place where the kids came with their friends,’’ David said. “The office has a sitting area where their kids and friends would be found engaged in conversation or watching movies."

With the children now young adults, Libby and David feel it’s time to downsize and let the next family enjoy the house, with backyard baseball games, parties, soccer kickarounds and gatherings for family and friends.

“It’s perfect for someone like we were 21 years ago to step in and enjoy it the way we did,’’ Hibbs said.
