Steinberg, who was sworn into his second term Wednesday, was selected for the task by House Speaker Brendan Sharkey, D-Hamden.

“The Energy and Technology Committee will play a critical role this year as we look for ways to reduce rising energy costs as part of an overall economic strategy, and I'm confident Rep. Steinberg is up to the challenge," Sharkey said in a statement. “Jonathan brings a wide spectrum of knowledge to each of his committee assignments, and I look forward to working with him."

Steinberg said the committee’s priorities this session will be addressing the state’s high energy costs, and setting a more aggressive state energy policy and green jobs creation initiatives.

In addition to the Energy and Technology Committee, Steinberg will serve on the Transportation Committee and the Appropriations Committee.

“Transportation remains a critical area of concern for Westport and Fairfield County,” Steinberg said. “We need to keep the focus on our rail system.”
