WESTPORT, Conn. – The League of Women Voters of Westport will host a candidates debate from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Westport Town Hall auditorium.

Kay Maxwell, former president of the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, will serve as moderator.

Co-sponsors are the PTA Council of Westport, Westport Women’s Club and the Y’s Women. Candidates for the state Senate – Toni Boucher (Republican) and Philip Sharlach (Democrat) for District 26, and Kim Fawcett (Democrat) and Tony Hwang (Republican) for District 28 – will debate first.

Then the state representative candidates – Brandi Briggs (Republican) and Jonathan Steinberg (Democrat) for District 136 and Keith Rodgerson (Democrat) and Gail Lavielle (Republican) for District 143 – will have a turn.

Each candidate will answer questions from the audience, read by the moderator. Then the candidates will each have a chance to give a closing statement. All members of the public may participate and find out more about the candidates’ views on relevant issues.

Cablevision Public Access Channel 79 will broadcast the debate live and then show it again in October. The dates will be posted online on the Celebrate Westport calendar. For more information about the debates, email Chris O’Sullivan at osullivanlaw@optonline.net .
