WESTPORT, Conn. — Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe is seeking Westport residents interested in being considered for appointment as Westport’s Harbormaster and Deputy Harbormaster.
According to State Statute, the first selectman may present for consideration to the governor, anyone interested in and eligible for appointment to the positions.
State of Connecticut Harbormasters and Deputy Harbormasters are appointed by the governor in accordance with Sec. 15-1 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
It provides for three-year terms of appointment. The harbormaster is charged with keeping channels and established fairways clear of obstructing vessels; management of abandoned or derelict vessels; decision-making authority over stationing vessels at anchor or mooring; and removal of abandoned boats.
The deputy harbormaster will assist the harbormaster in these functions.
State Statutes provide guidance on the process to be followed. Individuals interested in being considered for appointment must be registered voters in Westport.
