She made the announcement via Twitter ‏@Linda_McMahon late Wednesday afternoon.

"Honored to be appointed by President-Elect @realDonaldTrump to serve as head of @SBAgov advocating for our small businesses & entrepreneurs!" the Tweet said.

"Linda has a tremendous background and is widely recognized as one of the country's top female executives advising businesses around the globe," Trump said in a statement. "She helped grow WWE from a modest 13-person operation to a publicly traded global enterprise with more than 800 employees in offices worldwide."

He continued, "Linda is going to be a phenomenal leader and champion for small businesses and unleash America's entrepreneurial spirit all across the country."

McMahon, 68, donated $6 million in August and September to Rebuilding America Now, a super PAC that supported Trump. She ran twice unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut, losing to Richard Blumenthal in 2010 and Chris Murphy in 2012.

McMahon became a member of the Board of Trustees of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield in November 2004.

McMahon was appointed to the State Board of Education by Gov. M Jodi Rell in January 2009 and served for about a year. On April 1, 2010, McMahon resigned because state law does not allow board members to solicit campaign contributions.

The WWE is an American publicly traded, privately controlled entertainment company that deals primarily in professional wrestling, with major revenue also coming from film, music, product licensing, and direct product sales. She founded the company with her husband, Vince McMahon, and previously served as president of the WWE.
