State Rep. Lavielle Leaves Wilton Board Of Finance

WILTON, Conn.  – A heavier workload in Hartford prompted state Rep. Gail Lavielle to resign her seat on the Wilton Board of Finance, she said.

Rep. Gail Lavielle, R-143rd, stepped down from the Wilton Board of Finance recently because of her increased workload in the General Assembly.

Lavielle, a Republican, submitted her resignation at the finance board’s Jan. 15 meeting. Lavielle, who won a second term as the 143rd House District representative last November, said she has more responsibilities as a member of the legislature, including becoming a ranking member of the commerce committee. She is on four committees in Hartford and her district now includes a portion of Westport in addition to Wilton and Norwalk.

“I did not think it would be fair to Wilton for me to continue to serve” on the finance board, Lavielle said. “I have to be in Hartford five days a week. … I wouldn’t have the time to do the (finance board) work, and Wilton deserves someone who can give it their full attention.”

Lavielle said she told the board members before stepping down that she might be named to a leadership position in Hartford that would mean more work.

"I did not drop it on someone," she said.

The finance board has 30 days from the date of her resignation to appoint her successor, who will fill out the last 10 months of the term. The Wilton Republican Town Committee was considering replacements to fill the seat, Lavielle said.
