WESTPORT, Conn. — The eagle has landed — in Westport. President Barack Obama arrived at Sherwood Island State Park, via Marine 1, the presidential helicopter, shortly after 5:15 p.m. Monday.

Minutes later, a trail of motorcycles led the president onto Interstate 95 south, headed toward Stamford.

Three large helicopters were seen overhead from the Sherwood Island Connector, which was partially closed by Westport police. Two identical helicopters flew close to one another, and a third flew by a minute later. All three were headed toward the park.

The president was on his way to a fundraiser at the Stamford Marriott. Later Monday evening, he will head back to Westport, where he’s attending a glitzy $35,800 per person fundraiser, hosted by movie producer Harvey Weinstein, who lives on Beachside Avenue.

The party is expected to draw 50 to 60 guests and is reportedly being co-hosted by Weinstein and actress Anne Hathaway. Westport resident Joanne Woodward, wife of the late actor Paul Newman, is rumored to be attending.
