WESTPORT, Conn. – Voting will go on as scheduled in Westport on Tuesday despite Hurricane Sandy's powerful blow. No changes have been made to Election Day hours or polling place locations, town officials announced Friday.

Restoring power to polling places before Election Day was a priority, Connecticut Light & Power said Thursday.

Polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Saugatuck Elementary School, Greens Farms Elementary School, Coleytown Middle School and Long Lots Elementary School.

Residents who are unable to vote in person on Election Day can apply to receive absentee ballots. Residents may qualify for an absentee ballot if they are on active duty in the armed forces; have an illness or a physical disability; religious tenants forbid secular activity on the day of the election; or are absent from town during all hours of voting.

The town clerk’s office, located in Room 105 at Town Hall, will be open 9 a.m. to noon Saturday to accommodate voters who are applying for absentee ballots. Otherwise, ballot applications will be available through 4:30 p.m. Monday in the town clerk’s office.

Applications for absentee ballots can also be downloaded from the town website. All ballots must be returned to the town clerk’s office no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day when the polls officially close.

If you are unsure where your designated polling place is, you can find out on the town website by looking up your street. See all our election coverage on our Election 2012 page .
