The accident occurred at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at a home on Bonnie Brook Road, said Westport Fire Department Assistant Chief Larry Conklin.

The Westport Fire Department responded to a report of a worker down inside a swimming pool under construction, Conklin said.

The worker fell off scaffolding while using a “shotcrete hose” to build up the sides of the swimming pool with a cement mix, he said.

Westport Fire, Police and Emergency Medical Services officials stabilized the worker and treated his immediate injuries on the scene, Conklin said.

The worker was then transported to Norwalk Hospital for further evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified of the accident and sent a representative to the scene for its investigation.

The Fire Department responded with one command car, one engine and one rescue company.
