WESTPORT, Conn. — A 35-year-old Bridgeport woman was arrested on drunken driving charges after she was spotted driving on her rims on I-95 in Westport, police said.
At 12:45 a.m. Thursday, a Westport officer on patrol saw a vehicle on I-95 near Exit 18 that was "throwing sparks from the right front wheel and making a loud grinding noise," police said.
The officer stopped the car after seeing that the front right tire was gone and the rim was heavily damaged, police said.
When the officer was speaking to the driver, he detected an odor of alcohol in the car, police said.
The operator failed the field sobriety test and was placed under arrest. The results for the breath test were .1977 and .1944, more than twice the legal limit of .08, police said.
Shihy Cheng, 35, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol. She was released on $500 bond and issued a court date of Sept. 21 at Norwalk court.
