Driving drunk is reckless, but driving drunk with children in the car is even worse, as Westport resident Lana O'Brennan allegedly did Tuesday night.
Shortly after 8 p.m., police responded to a car accident in the area of 243 Main St. and found that O'Brennan, 37, had crashed head-on into a car while it was stopped at a traffic light. In speaking with O'Brennan, of 8 Twin Circle Drive, officers smelled alcohol on her breath. She failed field sobriety tests. Breath tests revealed her blood-alcohol level was more than four times the legal limit. Her two children, ages 10 and 6, were in the car at the time of the accident. She also struck a parked car before the accident.
The people in the other car were treated for injuries by Westport EMS. O'Brennan's children were taken to police headquarters, where they were released into the custody of another guardian. O'Brennan was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a child, failure to drive right, operating under the influence and evading responsibility. She is due in court April 25.
