Sarya Nieves, 20, was charged with five counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to keep a prescription in its original container, police said. She posted $1,000 bond and will appear in court June 2.

An officer was patrolling at 12:30 a.m. Sunday when he saw a car parked in the lot of Compo Beach long after closing, police said. The officer checked the car and made contact with the driver and Nieves, a passenger, police said.

He could detect the odor of marijuana and saw remnants of marijuana on the dashboard, police said.

After being confronted, Nieves admitted to having marijuana in the car and started to empty something into her purse, police said. She handed the officer a bag containing a marijuana cigar, and the officer checked her purse and found more marijuana and a gold keychain pill container with five pink pills wrapped in a baggie, according to police reports.

The pills were determined to be 20 mg amphetamine/dextroamphetamine, which is a schedule II controlled substance commonly used to treat ADHD, according to police. A marijuana grinder was also found in the passenger side door next to Nieves, police said. The driver was allowed to leave and Nieves was taken into custody.
