Woman Charged With DUI After Westport Crash

WESTPORT, Conn. – A 29-year-old woman from Bridgeport was charged with drunken driving in Westport last Friday night after she was involved in an accident, police said.

Blanca Chivarria crashed into the back of a car while coming to a red light at Wilton Road and Newtown Turnpike, police said. After coming to a stop, Chivarria got out of her car, got back in and continued northbound on Wilton Road with heavy front-end damage to the vehicle, the police report said.

Chivarria was later stopped in Wilton by Wilton police, the report said. Westport officers responded and smelled alcohol on her breath, according to the report.

She failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor. She was also charged with several motor vehicle violations. Chivarria’s bond was reduced by the bail commissioner to a promise to appear in court Jan. 21.
