WESTPORT, Conn. — A 29-year-old Wilton man was charged with driving under the influence after he crashed his car into a stone wall on Weston Road in Westport on Friday night, police said.
When an officer arrived at the scene, Brian Schoonmaker, of 209 Catalpa Road, was still in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, police said. The officer asked Schoonmaker to put his vehicle in park, but he could not follow the officer’s request and almost struck another vehicle in the process, police said.
While talking with Schoonmaker, the officer began to believe that he was under the influence of alcohol, police said. The officer administered a field sobriety test, which Schoonmaker failed, police said.
The front of end of his car was heavily damaged in the crash, according to police.
Schoonmaker was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, police said.
He posted $500 bond for a court date of Sept. 14.
