Westport Woman Charged With Leaving Dog In Hot Car

WESTPORT, Conn. – A 53-year-old Westport woman was charged with cruelty to animals last week after police received a report of a dog left inside a parked car, police said.

Police and the animal control officer arrived at the Goodwill store, 1700 Post Road E., and found the dog inside the car with the windows closed, the police report said. The outside temperature was measured at 89 degrees by the animal control officer.

Stacey Williams, the owner of the car and the dog, was located inside the store. When the car was opened by Williams, the inside temperature was measured at 105 degrees, according to the animal control officer. The dog was given water to cool off.

Williams, of Marine Avenue, was issued a misdemeanor summons for the charge and released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 6.
