WESTPORT, Conn. — A 44-year-old Westport woman was charged with multiple counts of risk of injury to a minor Tuesday night after police said she drove drunk with four children in her car.
At about 6 p.m., police were called to Darbrook Road on a report of an erratic driver. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant, who said he saw a gray Honda Pilot drive onto an embankment on Long Lots Road near Post Road East and hit a stop sign, according to the police report. The car was driven by a woman and occupied by small children, the motorist told police.
After getting out of the car briefly, the woman continued west onto Post Road East, where she weaved in and out of her traffic lane, the complainant told police. The woman later turned onto East Main Street, where she struck another vehicle, breaking one of its windows, the report said.
The complainant provided police with the Honda’s license plate number and officers were able to trace the vehicle to Kelly Haazen of Lantern Hill.
When officers arrived at the home, they determined the vehicle had recently been driven and had fresh damage, police said.
Haazen admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol with four children in the car ranging from age 4 to 10, the report said. She, however, denied having been involved in any accidents and refused to take a breath test, police said.
Haazen was charged with four counts of risk of injury to a minor, a felony. She was also charged with driving under the influence and evading responsibility. She was released on $5,000 bond and is due at Norwalk Superior Court on June 17.
