In the past, the program has been very successful, receiving thousands of toys that were able to be distributed to children who might not have had them otherwise. For the third year in a row, the department is working with Newtown Kindness, an organization whose mission is “to promote kindness as a guiding principle of humanity”.
"We are honored to work toward such a mission with Newtown Kindness. We ask for your continued support and generosity to help make this year’s drive as successful as in the past. By doing so, you will bring joy to so many children who often have none," the Westport Police Department said in a statement.
The department will accept new, unopened, and unwrapped toys, as well as cash donations, in the parking lot of The Athletic Shoe Factory, located at 1560 Post Road East, Westport on the following Saturdays and Sundays: Dec. 5, 12, and 13 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Collection boxes will also be set up at the Westport Police Department and Westport Town Hall, beginning Friday, Dec. 4 through Sunday, Dec. 13.
In order to allow for the proper and timely delivery of the donations, the deadline for all donations is Sunday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m.
