Westport Police, acting on information that a large amount of narcotics would be traveling through town on Sunday, stopped the suspect's vehicle on Treadwell Avenue at about 5:50 p.m. Sunday, according to a statement from Westport police Lt. David Farrell.

The Westport Police patrol division, Detective Bureau and K9 Officer James Loomer and Police Service Dog Koda were on the scene.

An investigation into the vehicle and its driver yielded over 4 pounds of MDMA, a pure form of the narcotic ecstasy, Farrell said. Ecstasy pills, methamphetamine powder and amphetamine pills were also seized, he said.

The driver of the car, Gregory Gottman, 39, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested and charged with sale of hallucinogen, possession of narcotics, illegal storage of narcotics, drug paraphernalia and interfering with an officer/investigation.

Gottman was held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on June 18.

It was the second large drug bust in two days for the Westport Police Department. A Pound Ridge, N.Y., was arrested Saturday on charges of possessing more than 5 pounds of marijuana. Read about that arrest here on the Daily Voice.
