Westport Police Join Search For Norwalk Bank Robber

Updated, 2:30 p.m.: Norwalk police have released a photo of the suspect in the Thursday morning robbery of the First County Bank on Westport Avenue.

Norwalk police are searching for a suspect who robbed the First County Bank on Westport Avenue on Thursday morning.

Police said the man walked into the bank at 10:09 a.m. and handed a note to a bank employee. He then fled the building three minutes later with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot, 6-inch black male weighing 170 pounds with a scruffy beard, police said. He was wearing baggy pants, a black hat, a white windbreaker jacket and work gloves, and carrying a transparent bag, according to police.

No weapons were displayed in the robbery, and nobody was injured. The K-9 unit conducted a search of the area and the Crime Scene Unit is processing the scene for evidence.

NORWALK, Conn. -- A manhunt was underway after the First County Bank on Westport Avenue in Norwalk was robbed Thursday morning, according to police.

The robbery occurred just after 10 a.m. The suspect is described as a black male, police said.

He passed a note to the teller and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police. 

No weapons were displayed in the incident, and nobody was injured, police said.

Police have secured the bank branch, located at 469 Westport Ave., (Route 1), near the Westport border.  

Patrol cars and canine units were searching the area for the suspect. The Westport Police Department joined the search as well.
