WESTPORT, Conn. Six unlocked cars were burglarized in Westport from Monday night into Tuesday morning, Capt. Sam Arciola said Wednesday.
Four of the incidents happened on Pumpkin Hill Road off North Avenue, Arciola said. The other two incidents were reported off Post Road East on Westfair Drive and Fairport Road. These two streets are connected.
Electronics, cash and credit cards were reported stolen by the vehicle owners, he said.
We cant assume all six are related, said Arciola. But we believe these crimes were committed by one or more suspects.
The areas where the crimes were committed are about 10 minutes apart. Despite the distance, Arciola said the common denominator between them is that all the vehicles were unlocked.
Burglaries, he said, are crimes of opportunity. As such, residents can take steps to prevent becoming a victim. For example, residents are advised to lock their cars and not to leave valuables in sight.
These cases are being investigated by the Westport Police Detective Bureau. Anyone with any information should call to department at 203-341-6000.
