Westport Police: Driver Clocked Going 96 In A 40 MPH Zone

WESTPORT, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man was charged with driving more than 50 miles over the speed limit in Westport on Monday.

At around 8:44 p.m. a Westport officer saw a vehicle traveling south on the Sherwood Island Connector at a high rate of speed, police said. The RADAR unit showed that the car was going 96 mph, while the posted speed limit is 40 mph, according to police. The roadway was dark and a straight away, police said.

The vehicle was stopped near the entrance to I-9s and the driver, Yuri Hamlet was taken into custody. He was charged with reckless driving and released on a $500 bond.
