WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport Police K9 Atlas will be getting his bullet- and stab-proof vest in a few weeks.
The body armor was donated thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. An anonymous donor sponsored the vest. The vest will be embroidered with, “This gift of protection provided by Sebastian and Maggie”
Vested Interest in K9s was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $1,050.00.
Atlas, a German Shepherd, joined the Westport Police Department's K-9 Unit at 19 months in August and began training as a Patrols/Narcotics Detection Canine In October.
