WESTPORT, Conn. –The Westport Police Department welcomed one new officer and promoted another to the rank of detective Monday, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Detective William Harsche.

Officer Sharon Russo was promoted to the rank of detective. He is a graduate of Sacred Heart University and currently is completing his master’s degree in criminal justice, also at Sacred Heart University. Tomanelli will begin his recruit training at the Connecticut Police Academy Friday.

The ceremony took place in the Westport Police Department classroom, where First Selectman Jim Marpe administered the oath of office.
