WESTPORT, Conn. A 26-year-old Westport man was arrested Sunday morning and charged with drunken driving after his blood-alcohol level tested two-times over the legal limit, police said.
Samuel Sagnella, of Witch Lane, was clocked on radar driving 47 mph in a posted 25 mph zone on Post Road West, police said. When the officer pulled out to stop him, Sagnella went through a red light at the intersection of Post Road West and Kings Highway North, the police report said.
As he continued west on the Post Road, Sagnella traveled three-quarters of the way over the double yellow center line, driving against oncoming traffic, police said.
Once stopped, the officer smelled alcohol on Sagnellas breath. Sagnellas eyes were also reportedly glassy. He failed field sobriety tests and the results of his breath test were .173 and .180. The legal blood-alcohol limit is .08.
In addition to driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor, Sagnella was charged with speeding and other motor vehicle violations. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is due in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 26.
