Westport Man Charged With Strangling His Wife

WESTPORT, Conn. — A 49-year-old Westport man was arrested on charges of strangling his wife during a domestic dispute in their home, police said.

At 11:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, officers responded to a home on Turkey Hill Road South on a report of a physical disturbance between a husband and wife, police said.

Investigating officers found evidence of a physical altercation and learned that when the wife attempted to call 911 on her cellphone from the bathroom, the husband forced his way in and grabbed her cellphone, police said.

The husband then smashed her cellphone, interfering with the emergency call, police said.

The husband, whose name is not included to shield the identity of the victim was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the police department, police said.

The Westport resident was charged with second-degree strangulation, disorderly conduct, interfering with an emergency call and third-degree criminal mischief.

He posted $10,000 bond and was issued a court date of June 29 at Norwalk Superior Court.
