Westport Man Charged In Repo Man Debacle

WESTPORT, Conn. – A 57-year-old Westport man is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after he confronted a repossession agent who was trying to recover a pickup truck, police said.

When the repossession agent arrived Saturday afternoon at Thomas Abbotts’ home on Greens Farms Road to recover one of Abbotts’ pickup trucks, Abbotts interfered, police said. Using a backhoe and another pickup truck, he blocked the agent’s tow truck in and refused to move them, the police report said.

Abbotts then tried to release the repossessed pickup truck from the agent’s tow truck by cutting two chains with a pair of bolt cutters, police said.

Even after officers arrived, Abbotts refused to move the backhoe and the other pickup truck that were blocking the agent’s tow truck, police said.

Abbotts was charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer and third-degree criminal mischief, all misdemeanors. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16.
