WESTPORT, Conn. – A 21-year-old Westport man accused of having a BB gun in his car was arrested early Monday, police said.
Cody Ropiak of Riverside Avenue was pulled over because one of his headlights was out, police said. When the officer approached the car, he saw what appeared to be the black handle of a gun sticking out from under a duffel bag in the back of the car, the police report said.
The officer determined the item was an airsoft or BB gun that had the orange tip removed, police said. It appeared that a black marker was used to darken the writing on the gun in an attempt to make it look more like a real firearm, the police report said.
Ropiak was charged with weapons in a motor vehicle, a felony. He was released after posting a $1,500 bond and is due in court Oct. 18.
