WESTPORT, Conn. – A 51-year-old Westport resident was charged with drunken driving Sunday night following a minor two-car accident on Compo Road South near Thomas Road, police said.
Arthur Connelly of Abbotts Lane, one of the drivers involved in the crash, had slurred speech, red glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol when officers arrived, the police report said.
Connelly failed field sobriety tests and refused a breath test, police said. In addition to driving under the influence of alcohol, he was charged with following too closely. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is due in court Aug. 22.
