WESTPORT, Conn. — A home caught fire Sunday morning, forcing the closure of a Westport road.
The fire at 53 Washington Ave. was called in to the department by a neighbor at 9:27 a.m., Westport Assistant Fire Chief Bill Dingee said. Firefighters had the blaze extinguished within 15 minutes of their arrival, he said.
"Fire was visible on the roof when we arrived," Dingee said. "The guys went inside to the attic space and fought the fire from there."
The house sustained minimal water and smoke damage, Dingee said, but added that the roof would need to be replaced. The homeowner declined to speak with The Daily Voice , but Dingee said he was told the homeowner had planned to replace the wood shingles on his roof anyway.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation by the fire marshal.
