Westport Home Burglarized With Resident Inside

WESTPORT, Conn. – A home on Sturges Highway in Westport was broken into Monday afternoon while the resident was present, police said.

At approximately 1 p.m., the homeowner reported to police that a burglary had just occurred. When officers arrived, they found signs of forced entry, police said.

The homeowner was not harmed, but a purse was reported stolen, police said.

The incident may be connected to two breaks-ins reported Monday in Fairfield near the Westport border, police said.

At 11:30 a.m., an alarm company reported an attempted burglary at a home on Redding Road less than two miles from Sturges Highway. It did not appear that the home was entered, but two windows were broken, Fairfield police said.

At 1:10 p.m., Fairfield police received an alarm report from a home on Stella Lane, which is about a five-minute drive from Sturges Highway. When officers arrived, a screen door was open and a window pane on the door leading into the home was broken. Miscellaneous jewelry was stolen, Fairfield police said.

Westport Police Capt. Sam Arciola said both departments are working closely in their investigations of the incidents.
