The report of the fire between exits 18 and 19 came in at 6:42 p.m. Sunday, the fire department said in a statement.

The driver reported "smelling something burning" just before the fire broke out, the statement said. After pulling the vehicle into the breakdown lane, the driver noticed flames and called 911.

Two Engine Companies and the Shift Commander responded. One hose line was stretched from Engine 5, and the fire was quickly extinguished. Firefighters from Engine 2 performed overhaul.

The vehicle was removed, and the last fire department unit cleared I-95 at 7:41 p.m.
