According to a Westport Fire Department statement, the firefighters arrived to the vehicle stopped in the right breakdown lane of I-95 -- between exits 18 and 19 headed northbound -- at about 6:45 p.m.
The operator of the vehicle, who was not injured, reported they pulled over to the breakdown lane when he smelled smoke, and upon pulling over saw flames and called 911, fire officials said.
The engines were easily able to put out the flames, perform overhaul and clear the highway within the hour, authorities said. During the accident, two lanes of traffic were shut down, causing significant traffic delays.
