Westport 14-Year-Old Charged With Threatening Classmate At Bedford

WESTPORT, Conn. – A 14-year-old student at Westport’s Bedford Middle School was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with threatening to harm a classmate, police said.

The student, who has not been identified due to his age, is accused of making online threats against another student, the student’s family and other classmates, Capt. Vincent Penna said in a statement.

The threats were discovered Friday by a teacher who was reviewing an online survey posted by a student, police said.

“The post written on the website detailed a threat to a student, his family and other unnamed students and stated it would be perpetrated at the school, on the last day of classes, June 21,” Penna said in the statement.  “No specific method to carry out the threat was mentioned or discovered.”

Detectives and school officials worked together to identify the teen who made the threats, Penna said.

The student was arrested by detectives with the Westport police Youth Bureau and charged with first-degree threatening, a felony, and second-degree breach of peace, a misdemeanor, police said.

The student was held at the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center. He was scheduled to be arraigned at Bridgeport Juvenile Court at 10 a.m. Thursday.
