Janice Murphy, 55, and Jean Murphy-Sweeny, 54, both of 22 Powder Horn Hill Road, were arrested Monday. Members of Wilton Police's Detective Division, along with Weston Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration's Tactical Diversion Squad, served the arrest warrants.
Murphy is charged with 16 counts each of second-degree forgery and illegally obtaining drugs by fraud. Murphy-Sweeny is charged with three counts each of second-degree forgery and illegally obtaining drugs by fraud, two counts of doctor shopping and one count of health insurance fraud.
Police said that both women created and filled fake prescriptions in the name of the child of one of them. They also billed an insurance company for the phony prescriptions, police said. Murphy-Sweeny is also alleged to have obtained prescriptions from two doctors without each of the doctor's knowledge, police said.
Bond was set at $50,000 for each, and they were scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
