An engine and the shift commander from the Westport Fire Department responded to the house at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a vehicle hitting a building.
When firefighters arrived, they found a partially occupied 12-passenger van had hit the garage of the house. The driver said they were dropping off a resident of the house and that even though the emergency brake was engaged, the van was not put in park. When the brake was released, the van rolled forward into the garage.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
A Westport building inspector and the Truck Company were called to the scene. The Truck Company temporarily shored up the damaged area until more permanent repairs can be made.
Police investigated and fire officials left the scene at 5:28 p.m.
Fire officials remind residents to make sure their cars are in park.
