Officers responded to the sandwich shop at 903 Post Road E. at 10:27 a.m. on a reported robbery, police said in a statement.
A man displaying a silver-colored handgun entered the restaurant at 10:10 a.m., employees told police.
The suspect was described as a black male, 6 feet tall with a muscular build and wearing a dark blue hoodie, dark gray or black pants, a black ski type mask with only his eyes exposed and black gloves, officers said.
The employees retreated to the rear of the store when the armed man entered the restaurant, police said. The suspect then went behind the counter and removed the cash box from the register, police said.
After the robbery, the suspect fled the area eastbound, on foot, toward the intersection of Cedar Road, carrying the register's cash box in his hands, employees told police.
The area was searched immediately after the robbery by Westport Police with the assistance of the Norwalk Police K-9 unit. The suspect was still at large Friday.
