A Trumbull officer on patrol at 2 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, spotted a vehicle on Main Street with an improperly displayed registration plate, police said.
Upon stopping and approaching the car, the officer was “enveloped” in a cloud of smoke as the driver rolled down his window, police said.
The officer immediately recognized the odor of burning marijuana, and all of the occupants of the car were detained, police said.
During a search of the car, officers found containers with marijuana, plastic bags, and a scale, police said.
The 17-year-old driver, who admitted he sold the marijuana to his friends, also had a significant amount of cash in his possession, police said. Officers seized the cash after determining it was the profits from those sales, police said.
The teen was given a warning for the registration violation and was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was referred to juvenile court for an appearance on Nov. 27, and later released to his parents.
