WESTPORT, Conn. -- Three people were arrested in Westport on counterfeiting charges after police said they were found with fake $100 bills Monday.

Anthony Canales, 27, of the Bronx, N.Y.,; Leslie Canales, 24, of the Bronx, and Jada Robles, 22, of Neward, N.J., were all charged with 24 counts of first-degree forgery, 24 counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree forgery, two counts of sixth-degree larceny and two counts of conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. Each was held on $50,000 bond.

Police received a complaint at about 7:45 p.m. Monday that a man had tried to use a counterfeit $100 bill at the Stop & Shop on Post Road East, police said.

An employee told officers that once the bill was determined to be fake, the suspect left the store and proceeded down the street to Walgreens. The Stop & Shop employee called police and provided a description of the man.

Officers located and detained three people in the Walgreens parking lot who were using counterfeit bills, according to police reports. They determined that Anthony and Leslie Canales went into Walgreens to make a purchase with the bills while Robles waited in the car, police said.

A large number of fake bills were located in the car, police said. During the investigation led by Officer Scott Morrison, it was determined that the group had also passed a counterfeit $100 bill at another Walgreens on Post Road East in Westport, police said.

All three were arrested, and the case remains under investigation.

The Westport Police Department is working with the U.S. Secret Service to determine the extent of the suspects' criminal activities, police said.
