WESTPORT, Conn. – A 19-year-old Bridgeport man was charged with two counts of drug possession in Westport last week after police said he was found with marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Joshua DeMarco was stopped last Tuesday night for a motor vehicle violation, police said. When the officer approached the car, he smelled marijuana coming from inside, the police report said.
After discovering DeMarco had received several infractions for possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana, the officer asked DeMarco if there was any marijuana in the car, police said. DeMarco then pulled a penny-sized amount of marijuana from the floor of the backseat, the report said.
Two clear bags of marijuana were subsequently found inside a backpack in the car’s trunk area after DeMarco told the officer there was no more, according to the report. A clear bag containing hallucinogenic mushrooms was also found inside the backpack, police said.
When asked about the hallucinogenic mushrooms, DeMarco told the officer he liked to eat them on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, the report said.
The two bags of marijuana found inside the backpack weighed a total of 28.5 grams, and the bag of mushrooms weighed 12.8 grams, police said.
DeMarco was charged with possession of hallucinogens, a felony, and possession of of marijuana, a misdemeanor. He was released after posting $2,000 bond is due at Norwalk Superior Court on Thursday.
