SUV Driver Hurt In Westport Crash

WESTPORT, Conn. – The driver of a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer was taken to Norwalk Hospital Wednesday morning after the SUV crashed into a utility pole on Whitney Street in Westport, Lt. John Pitoniak reported.

The accident happened at approximately 8:20 a.m. in the area of 48 Whitney St. Responding police, firefighters and EMS found the SUV wedged between the utility pole and a tree. Firefighters had to remove the driver’s side door to free the driver, Assistant Fire Chief Lawrence Conklin said in a news release.

The driver was treated by EMS and later taken to Norwalk Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Connecticut Light & Power crews were called to shut off power to the utility pole while the SUV was removed.

It was determined that the driver had suffered a medical episode prior to the accident, Pitoniak said. The roadway was cleared shortly before 11:30 a.m.
