A Waterbury man is behind bars after surrendering himself into police custody following his failure to appear for court proceedings involving a forgery arrest.

The Westport Police Department announced that Michael McCrorken turned himself in at police headquarters at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13 on an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court for a previous forgery and larceny arrest.

McCrorken was arrested last September after allegedly wrote fake checks to himself from his employer for $23,000. He was charged with second-degree larceny and 37 counts of forgery for writing the checks from his employer, the owner of A Dash of Salt, a Post Road catering company.

Police said that McCrorken was additionally charged with first-degree failure to appear in court and he was unable to post $15,000 bond. McCrorken was transported to Norwalk Court the following morning for arraignment and has been remanded into custody.
