State Bomb Squad Called To Disarm Grenade Tossed In Trash in Stratford

STRATFORD, Conn. — Police disarmed a WWI or WWII hand grenade that appeared to have been tossed into a Garfield Avenue home’s trash and wound up at the town’s waste management facility.

On Thursday, employees at the transfer station alerted police that they had found the grenade, prompting a visit from the State Police Bomb Squad, police said.

State officers disarmed the explosive and removed it from the area, which had been cleared for safety, police said.

No one was hurt in the incident.
