Southport Man Faces Drug Charges In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – A 23-year-old Southport man stopped for a traffic violation was arrested Saturday night in Westport on misdemeanor drug charges after police said he was found in possession of more than an ounce of marijuana.

Matthew Tumidajski was stopped on Post Road East because his rear license plate was illuminated with a blue, neon-type light, police said. When the officer approached the car, he smelled marijuana coming from inside, police said.

A subsequent search of the car turned up a total of 1.035 ounces of marijuana, a digital scale and other drug paraphernalia, according to the police report. Tumidajski was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and sale of a controlled substance.

Tumidajski was released after posting a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Jan. 2.
