Second Man Charged In Westport Car Burglaries

WESTPORT, Conn. – Nelson Rivera, a 24-year-old Trumbull resident, was arrested on a warrant Thursday by Westport police for his suspected involvement in a string of June car burglaries, police said. He is the second man arrested in connection with these burglaries.

Rivera and Livelle Sampson of Bridgeport, who was arrested Friday , are accused of burglarizing 10 cars June 5 and June 7, Capt. Sam Arciola said in a press release. The Westport Police Department Detective Bureau obtained information and evidence from other local departments that tied both Rivera and Sampson to the thefts from the vehicles, Arciola said.

Rivera, like Sampson, was charged with 10 counts of third-degree burglary, a felony, and multiple counts of both felony and misdemeanor larceny, Arciola said. He was arrested at Norwalk Superior Court and was being held on a $150,000 bond. Sampson also was held on a $150,000 bond.

In addition to the Westport burglaries, Rivera and Sampson are suspected of being part of a crew suspected in a rash of burglaries in Darien and Trumbull that also occurred in June, police said. Rivera, Sampson and the other members of the suspected crew — Joshua Rivera and Quamere Brantley — were charged with multiple counts of burglary by Darien police, court record show.

Nelson and Joshua Rivera, who police said are brothers, also have been charged with burglary by Trumbull police according to court records.
