Redding Police Warn Of Scam Letters Threatening To Harm Families

REDDING, Conn. -- The Redding Police Department is investigating a scam involving a letter seeking a financial payment in exchange for the safety of an alleged victim.

This week, a Redding resident received a typed letter, via U.S. mail, that demanded payment in exchange for the safety of their family.

The letter indicated that if the resident did not make this payment, through a Bitcoin.com transaction, that the resident and their family would be killed.

This letter additionally warned the resident not to notify law enforcement or the threat would be carried out.

The Redding Police Department is attempting to identify the owner of the Bitcoin wallet.

Similar threatening letters have been reported in Ridgefield.
