Police: Westport Man Seriously Injured In Motorcycle Crash

WESTPORT, Conn. – A 32-year-old Westport man was hospitalized with serious injures Sunday after his motorcycle was hit by a minivan, police said Monday night.

Bart Valiant was traveling south on Compo Road North at about 4:30 p.m. when a 2005 Dodge Caravan, traveling north, collided with his 2012 Harley-Davidson, police said. The accident happened at the entrance of Winslow Park, police said.

When emergency personnel arrived, Valiant was found lying in the grass near the park’s entrance, police said. He was transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS. The extent of his injuries was still being determined, police said.

The driver of the minivan was identified as 66-year-old Jean O’Dell of Westport. A preliminary investigation into the crash shows O’Dell failed to yield the right-of-way when she made a left turn in front of the motorcycle, police said. O’Dell was not injured in the crash and was present when emergency personnel arrived, police said.

The accident remained under investigation as of Monday night, police said.
