Police: Westport Man Reported Crashed Car Stolen

WESTPORT, Conn. – A 23-year-old Westport man turned himself in to police Sunday night on two warrants charging him with reporting a false crime, police said.

Back in August, Kyle Dexheimer, of Morningside Drive South, reported a car had been stolen, police said. Police determined Dexheimer was driving the car when it rolled over on Long Lots Road and crashed into a stone wall and road sign, the police report said.

Dexheimer was charged with second-degree reporting a false incident and interfering with an officer, both misdemeanors. He also was charged with several motor vehicle violations.

He was released after posting a $2,500 bond for the criminal charges and a $5,000 bond for the motor vehicle charges. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 22.
