On Wednesday, Feb. 22 a man arrived at the People's United Bank on Old Post road in Southport just after 4 p.m. The man was wearing a mask and gloves and carrying a duffle bag and was trying to enter the bank, which was locked. Employees told him the bank was closed and called the police after he ran off.

Witnesses described the man as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and in his 20s. He fled the scene in a greed 1997 Honda Accord with the license plate 477ZVD, police said.
On Friday, Feb. 24 the Fairfield County Bank on Danbury Road in Wilton was robbed by the same person who used the same car, police said. The man was described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, and he made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. The car was recovered a short distance away after fleeing the parking lot through a rear access road.
The surveillance footage shows the suspect arriving at the bank in Wilton, entering the bank, and driving off.
Police determined that the car had been purchased the day before in Stratford for $380 after an ad for it was posted on the site "Letgo." Police interviewed the man who sold the car, who said the person who bought it was a black man with a thin build in his 20s who had braids in his hair, police said.

The man who bought the car had arrived in newer model Nissan Maxima, which was black with tinted windows, police said. A Stamford address was printed on the bill of sale.
