WESTPORT, Conn. -- A man was charged with stealing a truck after its owners followed him down I-95 in an attempt to reclaim the vehicle, Westport police said.
Renato Meythaler, 33, of Stratford was charged with second-degree larceny. He was held on $5,000 bond and will appear in court June 15.
Westport police received a call at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, from a man who said he was following his stolen truck down I-95 southbound.
The victim is the owner of a landscape company whose 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck had been stolen from a yard in Stratford. He told police that the keys had been left in the truck while workers were loading other trucks.
While in Bridgeport, the owner's wife spotted the truck, police said, and they got on I-95 to follow it before calling police.
Units were able to locate the stolen truck as it got off I-95 at Exit 16. Police said they were able to box in the truck while it was in traffic and detain the driver, who was identified as Meythaler. He was arrested and charged.
