The Bridgeport officers were alerted at about 7:20 p.m. in the area of Trumbull Avenue by a resident in need of assistance, said Rowena White, director of communications for the City of Bridgeport.

They called for additional officers at the scene at 405 Trumbull Ave., White said.

Upon confirmation of two fatalities inside the apartment, the Detectives Bureau was also notified, she said.

Preliminary reports at the scene "indicate the incident to be a murder-suicide," White said.

Police did not identify the victims. But according to NBC Connecticut, the victims are a husband and wife, and their daughter flagged down the officer.

The State Medical Examiner has been notified and will investigate to determine the cause of death.

An active investigation was underway at the scene Wednesday evening by Bridgeport police detectives.

No further details were released about the crime.
